About the HBA
The Highlands Brass Academy is a not-for-profit entity based in Haliburton county. It was
found by Dan Manley, amateur tubist with an unhealthy love of brass music, in 2009.
The HBA exists to promote brass music education and performance across Ontario, and beyond.
It pays particular attention to the Kawartha and Muskoka regions north and north-east of Toronto
by making high-quality music education available which would otherwise only be accessible
in large urban centre. It also brings a financial benefit the Minden-Haliburton region with
a variety of tourism-related functions: public concerts and recitals; partnerships with local
businesses; partnerships with local cultural organizations; music vacation promotion.
The Academy is governed by a Board of Directors. Current members are:
- April Gates (Haliburton; potter and folk musician)
- Lorrie Reddering (Minden; trumpetist and music educator)
- Gary Blundell (Gooderham; visual artist and classical music lover)
- Hugh Taylor (Haliburton; architect and cornetist).
- Daniel Manley (Haliburton; HBA founder)
If you would like to volunteer on the Board of Directors, please contact
info@highlandsbrass.org. The Board meets every
few months to discuss and determine the HBA's present operations and future path.
Funding and Sponsorship
As with any arts education organization, bringing top-notch talent together with eager students
costs money. The goal of the Highlands Brass Academy is to make this education as
affordable as possible to all by keeping tuition costs low, and offering
scholarships to students in need. If you are like us and see a great value in music
education and the countless benefits it brings, please consider financially sponsoring the
Academy.
